Foxstone Cairn
The Wednesday night runners visited Foxstone yesterday evening to find the cairn destroyed, presumably by vandals. The stones are all there at the base of the outcrop. Would anyone be interested in a construction party to rebuild it? As a club we have a history of restoring damaged landmarks as we did with Broadstone Trig point. Let's make history a tradition!

Rebuilt!
Foxstone Cairn was rebuilt this morning by a team of 10 Saddleworth Runners. The expert team consisted of Don and his 2 grandchildren Chloe and Sam, Roy Bradley, Tony's Winter and Green, Jeff and Sue Kiveal, Tanya, Sharon and myself.
The finished Cairn is a huge improvement on the original, as you will all see if you take part in the Edges Reccie on 7th July and not a bit of cement in sight. The assemblerd crew collected enough stone to build at least 3 cairns in their enthusiasm but we limited ourselves to one.
There will be some photos on Flickr soon if I am allowed to join the Saddleworth Runners group page.
Thanks to everyone who came and helped.
Cairn building photos
The kids had a great time today, many thanks to the seniors for putting up with them.

Or at least I hope they are, it's my first attempt on flickr so no idea what has happened or where the photos are !

Sunday 28th
A reminder that the plan is to incorporate rebuilding Foxstone Cairn into this Sunday's run. I suggest we meet at Binn Green car park insetad of the Brownhill Centre and set off from there.
Think about bringing something warm to put on as there could be a bit of standing around. Camera's might be a good idea too.
Meeting Topic
Jill, I suggest we bring this up the Members Meeting on Tuesday. 9.30pm Cross Keys.
Foxstone
Bastards. Im up for helping. Cant do saturday cos of the welsh 1000s but can have a trot out on sunday?
Cairn Topiary
Did anyone notice the newly constructed cairn when reckying the new Snoopy's route? It looks like someone has used the bricks from the old one, just a foot away, and reconstructed it with layers of brick going in different directions creating a patterned cylindrical column. It looks quite clever but out of place.
Perhaps we could turn our Autumn Leafs cake making designs to cairn topiary so that in another 1000 years people will visit them and scratch their heads, wondering "why?", as we do with Stone Henge.
Ambition aside, I'll settle for helping to pick the stones up and put them back in a pile!
Anyone else?
I can't do this weeekend but how about next Sunday after The Wharmton Dash? Drinks in the Clarence after.
Foxstone Take 2
In the excitement(!) of last night's meeting I completely forgot to mention and arrange rebuilding the cairn. Have decided to leave it now until after the summer do and incorporate it into the Sunday run on June 28th. Watch out for updates.
